The FaxPress server’s embedded Xerox Interface transforms Xerox Document Centre and WorkCentre systems into reliable, high-powered fax machines. Paper documents scanned into the Xerox machine are converted immediately to electronic fax format by the Xerox Interface and sent to the FaxPress for fax transmission. Users can also print out received faxes on the Xerox machine, as well as success and failure notifications for outbound faxes.
One outstanding advantage of using the Xerox Interface is that, once a document is scanned, the Xerox machine is immediately free for further use, since all fax retries occur at the FaxPress rather than at the Xerox machine.
The many benefits of Xerox and FaxPress integration include:
■ | Walk-up faxing from Xerox Document Centre and WorkCentre Pro systems. |
■ | High quality, hardcopy output of received faxes |
■ | Speedier, more reliable and error-free communication. |
■ | Seamless integration of faxing with existing network and email systems. |
■ | An intuitive, user-friendly fax interface. |
■ | Integrated touch-screen faxing within the Xerox Document Centre and WorkCentre Pro systems. |
■ | Reduced paper consumption and costs. |
■ | Rapid deployment and ease of administration. |
The FaxPress Xerox Interface supports Xerox WorkCentre Pro and Document Centre models that include the Xerox Server Fax Kit.
The FaxPress Xerox Interface is designed to run on a Local Area Network with the equipment shown below.
For the FaxPress Xerox Interface to function properly, the following system requirements must be met.
■ | The FaxPress server must be running software version 8.0 or later. Keep in mind that although the FaxPress SBE servers support the FaxPress Xerox Interface, they do not support email functions. |
■ | the Windows workstation running the FaxPress Xerox Interface must also have the FaxPress Administrator client installed. |
■ | The Xerox WorkCentre Pro or Document Centre must support the Xerox Server Fax Kit. |
■ | The FaxPress server must be configured in compliance with the requirements of your local telephone service provider. |
■ | The FaxPress server, the Windows workstation running the FaxPress Xerox Interface and the Xerox WorkCentre Pro must all be on the same Windows NT or Novell local area network. |
The requirements listed above are for a minimal FaxPress Xerox Interface; you can connect several Xerox systems to a FaxPress server, and for high-volume faxing, more than one FaxPress server can be configured for use with numerous Xerox systems.
Required Installation and Configuration Procedures
Setting up the FaxPress server and Xerox WorkCentre Pro system for the FaxPress Xerox Interface involves the following procedures.
1. | Connecting the FaxPress server and the Xerox WorkCentre Pro system to the same network segment. |
2. | Creating a Fax Repository for each Xerox system on the network, then placing these repositories on the dedicated Windows workstation used to run the FaxPress Xerox Interface. |
3. | Configuring the Server Fax Kit on each Xerox WorkCentre Pro. |
4. | Installing and configuring the Xerox print drivers required for users to print faxes, fax notifications, or other documents on the Xerox system. |
5. | Installing the FaxPress Administrator client software on the workstation used to run the FaxPress Xerox Interface, and creating a FaxPress user for each WorkCentre Pro. |
6. | Installing the FaxPress Xerox Interface software on the workstation. |
7. | Configuring theFaxPress Xerox Interface, using the FaxPress Xerox Interface Configuration utility. |
After completing these procedures, test the system by scanning a document and sending a fax, then sending a fax to a user on the local area network who is registered in the system’s user map, then checking the notices generated for these transactions.
Assigning FaxPress Users for Each Fax Repository
For the Xerox Interface to connect to and retrieve faxes from the Fax Repository folder or folders created in Creating the Fax Repository Folder, a FaxPress user account must be associated with each Fax Repository.
If you’re creating new FaxPress accounts to assign to the repositories, consider setting up corresponding FaxPress user and Fax Repository folder names. For example, if the Fax Repository folders are named XeroxDrop1, XeroxDrop2, etc., the FaxPress users could be named Xerox1, Xerox2, etc.
These same names must be used as the email address names when you do your user mapping for the FaxPress Xerox Interface, as described in Configuring the FaxPress Xerox Interface. For details on adding FaxPress users, see Creating User Accounts.
After the Xerox Gateway is configured and started, Castelle recommends sending the following test faxes to confirm the system is fully operational:
■ | A test fax from the Xerox Document Centre or WorkCentre to an external, standalone fax machine. |
■ | A test fax to a user in the User Map from an external, standalone fax machine. |
Also, be sure to check the notices generated for these transactions.
